Principal’s Message

Principal Heather Reyburn

I would like to welcome you to Monte Vista Middle School (MVMS), home of the Mustangs. My name is Heather Reyburn, and I’m honored to be taking over as the new MVMS principal beginning in July 2025. Over the past three years, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know the MVMS students, staff, and families as the school’s assistant principal, and I’m excited to continue to serve our school’s community.

At MVMS, we pride ourselves on our vision of “sending the best freshmen to high school.” We strive to nurture every child’s academic and critical thinking skills, self-esteem, and physical wellness by providing rigorous instruction and a welcoming environment. MVMS offers several outstanding programs including a certified AVID program, superb music instruction (orchestra, jazz band, marching band), a drama course and theater productions, and a Gifted and Talented program for high achievers. MVMS also has a comprehensive counseling team, student leadership class, and an 8th grade WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) mentor program to build a positive community.

As part of Tracy Unified School District, MVMS provides cooperative STEM instruction and learning experiences. All students take part in challenging STEM projects, so don’t be surprised if your student comes home talking about designing sustainable environments or evaluating the aerodynamics of paper airplanes. We also house an award-winning Math Counts team and offer Science Olympiad, Math Olympiad, and Girls Who Code clubs. Our staff includes several educators with advanced degrees, and our teachers work together in professional learning communities and co-teaching partnerships to support students in meeting and exceeding state standards.

As for my own background, I have always been guided by a desire to make a difference along with a love of reading, writing, and global cultures. I hold a BA in French Literature from UC Santa Barbara, completed the teacher credential program at Cal State East Bay, and earned an MA in Educational Administration from Concordia University, Irvine. Prior to working as an educational site administrator, I served as TUSD’s ELA Curriculum Specialist (TOSA), and an elementary and secondary teacher.

Thank you for being a part of our MVMS community! I invite all families to get involved in their children’s education, whether you join our parent cafés or PIQE program, attend a family event, or support your students’ studies at home. We are glad you are here. Let’s work together to help your students explore and achieve their dreams.
